Path to Purpose at The Snug

Path to Purpose supports people who are not currently working to rebuild confidence, connect with others, and develop practical skills, at their own pace.

Life can take people out of work for many reasons, including ill health, caring responsibilities, or a loss of confidence. This programme offers a gentle way back in a welcoming, community setting, without pressure or judgement.

At The Snug, you can take part in supported workshops to gain experience in hospitality, sound engineering, stage management, and take part in creative events. The experience and skills you gain can be added to your CV when you feel ready.

Funded places are available for people claiming benefits, and taking part will not affect your benefits.

Getting started is simple. Register your interest and a member of The Snug team will get in touch for a friendly chat to understand what feels right for you.

If you still have questions after reading, the team at The Snug will be happy to talk things through with you.

Path to Purpose is a funded programme that helps people who are not currently working reconnect with others, build confidence, and gain practical skills.

At The Snug, this includes hands on workshops and supported roles in hospitality, sound engineering, stage management, and creative events.

It is about taking small, supported steps at your own pace.

This programme is for adults who are currently not working.

This might be because you are on long term sick, managing a health condition, caring for someone, or have been out of work for a while.

You do not need recent work experience, qualifications, or confidence to take part.

Yes. To access a funded place on the Path to Purpose workshops, you need to be claiming benefits.

This could include Universal Credit or other eligible benefits.

If you are unsure, the team at The Snug can talk it through with you.

No. Taking part will not affect your benefits.

These are funded training and volunteering style opportunities, not paid employment.

The programme is designed specifically so people can take part safely while claiming benefits.

No. The roles and workshops are not paid.

They are designed to give you experience, skills, and confidence that you can add to your CV when you feel ready.

Some costs, such as travel or food, may be supported where needed.

Depending on what you choose to get involved with, you could gain skills in:

  • Hospitality and front of house work
  • Bar support
  • Sound engineering
  • Stage management
  • Event set up and delivery
  • Teamwork and communication
  • Timekeeping and routine

Some participants may also access short accredited courses such as first aid or health and safety, where appropriate.

Not at all.

Many people start with no experience at all.

You can observe, shadow others, and learn gradually with support.

Interest and curiosity matter more than experience.

As structured or flexible as you need it to be.

Some people attend regularly and enjoy routine.

Others dip in and out as their confidence grows.

You can start small and build up when you feel ready.

You will not be left to manage things on your own.

Support includes:

  • Friendly staff and volunteers
  • One to one buddying if needed
  • Clear explanations and guidance
  • A welcoming, non judgemental environment

Everything is designed to feel safe and manageable.

You are not alone. Many people who take part feel the same at first.

The Snug is known for being a warm, welcoming space where people are met as they are.

You can sit back, observe, and take part at your own pace.

All activities take place at The Snug Coffee House in Atherton.

Some sessions run during the day, others in the evening, giving you options that fit around your life.

Yes.

Alongside Path to Purpose workshops, The Snug also runs:

  • Stitch and Bitch, a weekly craft and social session
  • Open mic nights and spoken word events from 2026

These are great ways to build confidence and connection in a relaxed setting.

No.

There is no pressure to commit long term.

You can try a session, see how it feels, and decide what works for you.

The programme helps you rebuild confidence, routine, and skills in a real world setting.

You can add your experience to your CV and talk about it in future job applications or interviews.

Even if employment is not your immediate goal, the skills and confidence gained are valuable steps forward.

You can register your interests using our online form HERE

If forms feel overwhelming, the team at The Snug can support you with the process.

You are encouraged to ask questions before applying.

That is okay.

You are welcome to come along to public events, have a brew, and get to know the space first.

Path to Purpose is about meeting people where they are, not rushing them forward.

Once you fill in the register of interest form, nothing happens straight away.

A member of The Snug team will get in touch with you for a friendly chat.

This is not an interview and there are no right or wrong answers.

The chat is simply a chance to:

  • Talk about what you are interested in
  • Understand what support you might need
  • Answer any questions you have
  • Make sure you feel comfortable and supported

Together, we will look at what feels like a good fit for you and take things at your pace.

There is no pressure to commit to anything before you feel ready.
